Designed by Danish architect Theophil Hansen and completed in 1870, the building features six performance spaces, the most famous of which is the Golden Hall. Constructed in the Greek Revival style and modeled after a Greek temple, it features golden caryatids, ceiling frescoes, and an opulent, gilded interior. But the beauty of the Musikverein is more than skin-deep — the hall's rectangular shape, sunken ceiling panels, balconies, and golden statues all contribute to its exceptional acoustics, celebrated for their richness and perfect balance. Each year, the Musikverein's most prestigious event is the New Year's Concert, performed by the Vienna Philharmonic, one of the world's premier orchestras.
