Brewing Love: The Story of Yujan Rai | | Yujan Rai was born into a legacy of tea-makers on the tea gardens of Darjeeling. He grew up playing with his friends among tea bushes and learning the art of tea plucking from his parents. A keen learner, Yujan began assisting his parents in plucking fresh leaves from a young age. Yujan's pathway, despite what one might imagine, was not linear and in fact quite surprising. Early on, Yujan developed an interest in tinkering with the machines at the tea factory in Darjeeling. He grew to become a skilled electrician at the factory, balancing his tea-making skills with his talents with machinery. After a decade of this work, he took his skills to a tea-estate in Ilam, Nepal. In Ilam, interesting teas were brewing, but so was his love for his to-be wife Sita Rai. As their romance unfolded, Yujan started training to make teas under the talented tea master, Sonam Lama. Though he had extensive experience of producing black teas, diving into the vast world of Oolongs was a new process for him. But a special teacher produces a special student, and Yujan was destined to become the producer of our only Oolong Tea -- the Shangri-La Oolong. Shangri-La Oolong has the flavor notes of Sweet Spices, Caramel, and Biscuits. Bringing out the same flavors in Oolong tea is an art that only rare tea makers have perfected. Yujan understands this, and although we believe that he is already an expert, Yujan's calm demeanor and focused eyes hint at his hunger to become a better tea-maker. | | No longer want to receive these emails?
