To our Holifrog family,
Emily here, co-founder of Holifrog. I wanted to wish you a Happy Earth Day! While I recognize the importance of sharing the ways Holifrog gives back to the planet, it feels equally as vital to acknowledge that in the face of climate change, Earth Day can feel a bit disheartening.
As someone who has personally felt a little hopeless about the climate crisis, I decided a few years ago to turn my fear into positive action, and began volunteering and supporting land conservation organizations within my community. It's been incredibly powerful and transformative to get out there and really do something for our planet.
I live on Martha's Vineyard, and one of the many special things about this island is its prioritization of conserving land so that the public has access to its beauty versus every square foot being built up and ultimately destroying the essence of the island. It's been so inspiring to come alongside others and actively care for our community and the land we live on together.
This year on Earth Day, I want to encourage you to find your own way of giving back to the planet. Big or small—it doesn't matter. Real change happens when we're all committed together.
I'm linking some of my favorite local organizations that I volunteer for and support. I hope it inspires you to get out there and get going for Mother Earth!
Not quite a sanctuary program but not a park system either, Martha's Vineyard Land Bank acts as a middle ground where the highest virtues of conservation can be realized. In its 35 years, 3900+ acres of land have been conserved and are enjoyed by farmers, hikers, birders, and more.
Sherrif's Meadow Foundation, the local land trust of Martha's Vineyard, is a leader in land and cultural conservation, wildlife preservation, and safe care for rare plants and animals native to the area. The non-profit protects 3,220 acres of land across the island, own 75 distinct preserves comprising 2,390 acres, and hold 41 conservation restrictions over an additional 830 acres.
With education and land stewardship at its core, The Martha's Vineyard Trustees of Reservations preserves endangered iconic landscapes and precious cultural relics, all while educating and engaging visitors and citizens of the community to take part in protecting and learning about the rich history of the island.
The Vineyard Conservation Society
Through public education, local political advocacy, and legal defense work, the Vineyard Conservation Society has effectively preserved large stretches of land across Martha's Vineyard since 1965 and counting.
xo,
